Ongoing Music Programs Supported by the Newark Educational Foundation (NEF)

The After School Band program enables musically inclined 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students to receive instruction on Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion instruments. The students meet after school multiple times a week and over the course of the year they advance from the basics of playing their instruments to performing their own concert at the end of the year. The program provides all students the opportunity to experience the joy of music while preparing them to join the award winning Newark Junior High School band program when the time comes. Instruments are provided free to all students who need them for the duration of the program.
The NEF provides all of the funding for the Newark After School Band program.

Music for Minors II delivers dynamic music appreciation classes to the Kindergarten and 1st grade students in all 7 Elementary schools in the Newark School District. Other Musical Activities Supported by the NEF

From time-to-time the NEF supports other deserving music related activities. This support is intended to assist the receiving organization or group with unique or unplanned expenses. Members of the organization must demonstrate a commitment to raising a majority of the needed funds for such activities before the NEF considers funding such a request.

The Newark High School Band was in a quandary. All their hard work had finally paid off and they were invited to a competition in Seattle. Now the challenge was to get the entire band to the competition. The NEF provided funds, and when combined with the heroic efforts of the Band's members and boosters, enough money was raised to ensure that all of the Band's members could go to the competition.

Flooding in several rooms at Newark Memorial High School damaged many of the costumes and sets for an upcoming musical production by the Drama department. The NEF provided funding and the "show went on" as students, teachers and volunteers worked tirelessly to replace missing costumes and rebuild the damaged sets in time for the production.
